Adam Wingard delivers an adrenaline-filled, visually stunning follow-up to his 2021 “King Kong vs. Godzilla.” The newest addition to the MonsterVerse movies has fans rushing back into theaters to watch the Titans defend Hollow Earth.
A new ape, Skar King, alongside his enslaved titan Shimo, is discovered to be a threat to the Earth and Hollow Earth. Kong and Godzilla must put aside their conflict-filled past to join forces and defend Earth.
This movie served as fantastic entertainment with its use of special effects and CGI created by beautiful and immersive landscapes within the world of King Kong and Godzilla. This paired with the locations, Rio and Italy, keep the audience glued to the screen as the action unfolds. Rebecca Hall (Dr. Ilene Andrews) and Kaylee Hottle (Jia) both delivered in their respective roles as a mother-adopted daughter duo allowing for some emotional moments in an action and fight-scene-heavy plot.
One character that stood out was the support character Trapper, played by Dan Stevens. Most people may know Stevens from his recurring role in the historical drama “Downton Abbey.” From the moment Trapper is introduced, it is evident that Stevens was a good casting decision. His portrayal of the easy-going, spiritual, Titan dentist trapper allowed for a much-needed kick of humor among the drama and chaos that ensues for the majority of the film.
Two minutes longer than the first, the movie’s run-time is 155 minutes which might be considered fairly long. Although this might be true, there were hardly any moments at which the movie felt
as though it was drawn out. The constant action and conflict in combination with the impactful dialogue allowed for an experience that kept viewers on the edge of their seats.
Seeing the movie at Warehouse Cinemas here in Frederick was a great experience. Their Dolby Atmos surround sound along with the recliner seats create the one-two punch for the best movie viewing experience. Well worth a few hours of your time if you are a sci-fi enjoyer looking for a movie to watch. And the best part? It’s only $7 on Tuesdays at Warehouse Cinemas.
