Top 9 Places to Study in Frederick (and One in Walkersville)

With a pair of headphones and your study materials, you can study anywhere. Luckily, we are surrounded by good study locations. From coffee shops to public libraries, Frederick is the hot spot and has it all.

Here is a list of the top 10 best study locations in Frederick:

  1. Gravel and Grind. This is a calming espresso bar and bike shop. There are plenty of places to sit, hang out, and study. The coffee is highly rated, as well as the food. On Sundays, they have a limited brunch menu which is amazing. The waffles, toast, and the long list of beverages are raved about. Overall, this coffee shop offers a great atmosphere to get some work done. Location: 15 E. 6th St., Frederick.
  2. Frederick Coffee Co. & Cafe. This cafe the heart of Shab Row, Frederick Coffee Co. & Cafe has been a community staple for more than 20 years. I started going here in high school, and it is safe to say it is one of my favorite spots. They are open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to  6 p.m. and offer a variety of foods and drinks. All of the workers are very friendly and make you feel welcome. With free Wi-Fi and a casual atmosphere, this is a great place to go and enjoy inside or outside. Location: 100 N. East St., Frederick
  3. Frederick Community College. FCC is a wonderful place to study. There are many seating areas throughout campus, inside and outside. In the Bess and Frank Gladhill Learning Commons on the second floor of Linganore Hall, you can find the library, tutoring and writing center, technology room, and study spaces all in one place. The learning commons has it all — students looking for a place where they don’t need to worry about their noise level can find study spots designed for them to work on presentations and group projects. Students with a quieter environment in mind will also find a specific area for them. Location: 7932 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick
  4. Ibiza Cafe. This is one of the hidden gems Frederick has to offer. Not many people know about this place, but once you find it, you become a regular customer. This place is perfect for study sessions with a cozy, rustic, inviting dining area and a nice outdoor seating space. They have an incredible menu and are known for their tea, coffee, and calming atmosphere. Overall, the inside of the cafe is quite quaint and not noisy. It’s a nice place to study or meet up with a few friends. Location: 8 W. 4th St., Frederick
  5. Walkersville Public Library. This location is a personal favorite. Built in 2018, this new and improved library is a sweet escape for many. Aside from the variety of books to choose from, this library offers three large study rooms to choose from. Reserving a room is free of cost and very easy. All you do is go through this link: https://www.fcpl.org/study-rooms-fcpl and show up at the reserved time. The atmosphere is relaxed, the place is clean and has excellent customer service. This library is a state-of-the-art place for reading, research, and quiet study. Location: 2 S. Glade Road, Walkersville.
  6. Dublin Roasters Coffee. With a yummy menu and a great seating area, Dublin Roasters is a great place to chill and study. You can reserve a room here for around $5. There are three separate rooms, all of which are quiet. They have performances on Sundays, so maybe avoid those days if you want quiet time. You can get an endless mug of coffee and refill it as much as you’d like throughout your study session. Location: 1780 N. Market St., Frederick.
  7. Starbucks, Downtown Frederick All Starbucks locations offer free WiFi, which is a huge plus. The Starbucks in downtown Frederick is constantly busy. Although, a big seating area in the back offers a quiet place for people who need to get some work done. This location is best for someone in the downtown area who wants a quick beverage and a study spot. Location: 104 N. Market St./ 104 S. Market St., downtown Frederick.
  8. Wegmans Dining Area. Although this might sound strange, the Wegmans dining area offers a great study location. Out of all 10 on the list, Wegmans has the best hours. Open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to midnight, you are bound to get some studying done. During certain hours, it can actually be very quiet in this area, depending on how busy the store is. There are a lot of places to sit, inside and outside. And to top it all off, you are surrounded by good food and drinks. Location: 7830 Wormans Mill Road, Frederick.
  9. Shab Row Tea Emporium. This is probably the most underrated place on this list. Not many people know about it, and it often gets pushed to the side as people tend to go into Frederick Coffee & Co. This is one of the best places to study if you get lucky with a place to sit. Although the downstairs has no seating, the upstairs does. With a few chairs and desks, the upstairs is the perfect getaway if you want to get some studying done. If you haven’t been, get a fresh cup of tea and enjoy the view of Shab Row from the upstairs windows. Location: 112 N. East St, Frederick
  10. The Perfect Blend Cafe. If you want the perfect local coffee house with an atmosphere that makes you feel welcome, this is a great place. Like many others on this list, this cafe has a wonderful menu. The only downside of this cafe is the limited seating. There are only a few places to sit, but if you get lucky and get a spot, you can have a great study sesh. The area is quiet and not too busy.. Location: 31 W. Patrick St., Frederick
