Spotlight: Summit Point Motorsports Park

Students looking to do something relativity cheap during the summer should check out Summit Point Motorsports Park in Summit Point, West Virginia, Sitting forty-five minutes west of Frederick Community College events allow spectators in with tickets found on their ticket website

Not one track sits, but a motorsports campus with three different circuits. The original two-mile main circuit, 1.7-mile Jefferson Circuit and 2.2- mile Shenandoah Circuit, along with an autocross course and skidpad.

Popular organizations Sportscar Club of America and National Auto Sport Association are spectator friendly with ticket prices being $25 and $20 for each series. Races are held on the main circuit, with cars usually on track from 8:15 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday each race weekend.

Other club organizations BMW Club and Porsche Club of America hold race weekend at Summit, with PCA weekend being free to spectators on September 18th-20th. Endurance series American Endurance Racing make a stop in late June, while Lemons comes through in October. All these events allow spectators.

What makes coming to Summit worth it is that the track allows outside food and drinks. A concession stand is available as well with a selection of food and drinks to choose from.

Want to get close and check out the cars? You’re able to do that, as anyone is allowed to get down into the paddock and meet the people who drive these cars. Many individuals are very friendly and will chat if they’re not busy.

Unlike professional race series where teams have big massive setups with multiple cars and people working, most drivers here just have a single trailer and some friends that help them throughout the weekend.

Miatas are the most common cars found racing at Summit with highly populated classes like Spec Miata and Showroom Spec Miata that use first and second gen nineties models.

On some occasions big high horsepower expensive cars will show up. German Porsche GT3 cup cars and a Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo2 that is rarely seen in club racing have raced at Summit Point.

If you’re not able to make or attend SCCA events, don’t worry as all Washington D.C. region SCCA races are live streamed on youtube with commentary.

If you aren’t really a fan of cars, bike racing is held by the American Superbike Racing Association on May 22-24 and July 31-August 2. Tickets are a little bit more, being $30 but go from Friday-Sunday.

Summit Point doesn’t just host club racing, as it hosts their own drifting series called drift Nirvana. These are some of the most popular events at the facility each year with over 400 cars participating in the Drifters of December which is held on all five tracks.

If you’re looking for something to do relatively cheap this year, check out Summit Point for events that can be found on the website’s spectator schedule.
