Frederick Returns to Affiliated Ball With 2026 Home Opening Series

The Frederick Keys opened their 2026 home schedule at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium, hosting the Hudson Valley Renegades in a six game, mid-April opening series that marked Frederick’s return to affiliated baseball.

While Frederick ended up losing four of the six games, the homestand featured the clubs first home victory of the season and arrival of Baltimore Orioles second baseman Jackson Holliday, came on on a rehab assignment.

The return of affiliated baseball added meaning to the City of Frederick. The Keys were stripped of their affiliation to the Baltimore Orioles following MLB’s 2020 realignment of the minor leagues, leaving the city without affiliated ball for years.

In preparation for the 2026 season, Frederick poured over 39 million dollars in renovations to the teams home stadium, Nymeo Field. This included improvements like renovated clubhouses and player facilities, enhanced training and medical areas, and updates designed to improve fan experiences throughout the ballpark. This helped bring the stadium up to Minor League Baseball standards and played a key role in Frederick regaining an affiliated team.

The home opener on April 14 was highly anticipated, but the game was interrupted by rain in the middle of play, putting a delay on the celebration. The team then played a doubleheader the next night to make up the game.

Hudson Valley controlled the early part of the series, taking the first three games by scoring a combined 22 runs across those contests. The Renegades jumped out to early leads and were able to hold off Frederick late, putting the Keys in an early hole during the homestand.

Frederick responded on Friday night, April 17, by earning their first home win of the season with a 6–1 victory. Right‑hander JT Quinn delivered a strong start, while the offense provided separation with two‑run home runs from Vance Honeycutt and Braylin Tavera.

The Keys followed that win with another strong performance on Saturday, April 18, defeating Hudson Valley 4–1. Frederick scored four runs in the second inning, highlighted by a two‑run home run from Ryan Stafford, and the pitching staff limited the Renegades to one run.

Sunday’s series finale was the most dramatic game of the homestand. Frederick held a late lead before Hudson Valley rallied in the ninth inning to force extra innings. The Renegades scored two runs in the 10th inning to secure a 7–6 win, closing out the series despite a late rally attempt from the Keys.

Although Frederick dropped the series, the Opening Series had steady improvement, a pair of home victories, and renewed excitement for affiliated baseball.
