Embracing Student Art: The FCC Student Film Festival Returns

Block off May 17th on your calendars, movie fans!

The annual FCC Student Film Festival is back, giving FCC’s Film and Video students the opportunity to share their work with friends, family, and the community.

This is the third year of the FCC Student Film Festival, which was first held in 2023. The festival highlights student work created throughout the 2024-2025 school year, and gives these young artists a unique platform on which to display their work. As stated on the festival’s website, “It’s a night of artistic expression via stories created by our very own students.”

Jason Santelli, FCC Film and Video Production’s Program Manager, encouraged all FCC students and the Frederick community to attend the film festival.

“This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for students in the Film & Video program to showcase their work on the big screen, stepping beyond the classroom and into the spotlight,” Santelli said. “It’s a chance to experience the full breadth of this incredible program, through captivating short films and stunning animations that push creative boundaries.”

He went on to add that viewers can look forward to “[The] fresh perspectives and original ideas these emerging filmmakers bring to the screen.”

The festival isn’t just a treat for the audience, however. It also gives the young filmmakers that participate an experience they will never forget. As Santelli put it, “The thunder of the crowd applause makes all their hard work worth it.”

As the spring semester comes to a close, there has never been a better time to enjoy some local art and support the student filmmakers of FCC. The FCC Student Film Festival will be held in the JBK Theatre, located in the Arts Center, on May 17th at 6 p.m., with doors opening for seating at 5 p.m. The films are scheduled to conclude at 10 p.m. Attending the film festival is free, although a ticket is required for entry. Free tickets are available here.
