Students’ Plans after the Fall 2024 Semester

Following the fall 2024 semester, some Frederick Community College students will graduate and enter their chosen field of work, while others might choose to remain on campus and pursue their degrees.

These students may pursue a higher degree or certification to improve their credentials, while graduating students might be searching for entry-level jobs. Whatever their plans, Frederick Community College students are committed to their studies and future achievement.

As students prepare for their next phase of life, Frederick Community College offers them a wide variety of options. They choose their major because it motivates them to take on challenges and dream big about what lies ahead. These students still have goals for their careers, whether they graduate or not.

“My major is social science, and the reason why I chose it is because it has easier transitions to go into social work in Salisbury.” said Lourdes Ingrassia, a 22-year-old student in her third year at FCC, of Frederick.

Lourdes is a graduate student who plans to transfer to Salisbury University after the fall semester and is going to continue taking and exploring her major.

“Once I transfer to Salisbury University, I’m not only planning to get my bachelor’s,” Ingrassia said.” I also want to obtain a master’s to have a higher-level job as a social worker for kids and victims of domestic violence.”

Joshua Ames, 19, from Adamstown, is in his first year at FCC. He is majoring in criminal justice. He said he loves his major.

“The classes are great, and it’s interesting how I get to learn new things that were not in the program I was in at CTC (Career and Technology Center),” Ames said.

Ames also took a program in CTC, which was called Criminal Justice/Homeland Security.

“But the main reason I’m majoring in criminal justice is because my dad did the same when he was my age,” Ames said. “After hearing amazing stories about his work and having an interesting mind, my dad inspired me to pursue the major.”

Ames intends to continue his studies at the FCC after this fall semester. After graduating, he might transfer to the University of Maryland to earn a bachelor’s degree in the same field. After that, he hopes to work in the special agent division of the Secret Service.

Wren Block, 18, a first-year student at FCC, is looking toward a fashionable career.

“I want to be a jeweler once I graduate from FCC and another university because becoming a jeweler is my passion,” Block said. “I’ve been making jewelry since I was a kid, and I knew right away that was my career choice.”

Block is majoring in arts and humanities and said he loves art and is planning to continue his major in the spring semester after the fall.

After the fall semester, Block intends to pursue his major and gain more jewelry-making experience. Although he is only in his first year at FCC, he has no plans to transfer, but he does want to move to a university once he graduates in 2026. He said his major and classes were what he expected since high school.

Harley Halsey, 22, from Middletown, is in their second year at FCC and is majoring in psychology because they want to help people as an LGBTQ+ professional.

“I love psychology because I want to help people, especially those in the LGBTQ community,’ they said. “My major also provided me with the information and abilities I need to comprehend the structure and root causes of both individual and group behavior.”

Harley’s plan after the fall semester is to graduate, which is in spring 2025, and afterward, they want to transfer to a university with the same major, which involves social studies and sender studies.

“After university, I want to be a social worker in local outreach for local queer people.” Halsey said.
