With the end of the semester coming up, many are deciding where to attend in the fall.
While some Frederick Community College students are transferring to begin their first semester at a four-year university, these students are excited about taking one more step to finishing their degree. For these students they have already planned and are excited about the schools they will be attending.
Eyad Bedas, 18, first-year pre-health major, will be transferring to the University of Maryland Shady Grove Campus to pursue his medical degree.
“It is a great in-state school with resources, medical programs, and tuition is affordable,” Bedas said.
He is also happy to still be near his family and girlfriend but is also ready to continue his education for something he is so passionate about.
“A lot of my friends go there, and it would be a great experience for my social life to expand,” he said.
Diane Pleitez, 18, is a second-year biology major. She plans on attending Mount Saint Mary’s University in Emmitsburg in the fall, and live in an off-campus apartment with friends.
“Honestly St Mary’s is an overlooked school,” she said. “I don’t know why more people don’t look at it as an option.”
Pleitez said she is happy with the choice she made for a university because of its program.
“I’ll be close to home in case of an emergency, but I still get to live and have a little college experience of being independent,” she said “That’s really what I am looking forward to. My parents were always strict so to have this little bit of freedom, I am so excited.”
Adriel Rosales, 18, a first-year general studies major. He plans on majoring in social science. Rosales is deciding between the University of Maryland-College Park and Towson University but is leaning more toward Towson University.
The reason he is thinking of selecting Towson is because he found it more affordable, and it made financial sense.
“I got a good amount in scholarship money that covers a lot of my expenses,” he said.
As for going from a small campus like FCC to a larger one like Towson, Rosales is excited.
“I’m really not worried about going to a place where I don’t know many people or have a big social life, that’s what college is for, to go out and meet new people,” he said.
