Last year, many Easter celebrations and events had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Churches were closed, Zoom rooms were opened, and everyone was quarantining. You could not even get a picture with the Easter Bunny at the mall.
My 2020 Easter consisted of celebrating with the family I had at home, doing our usual traditions and Zoom calling the rest of my family. It was my Grammy’s first Easter alone, because of COVID-19.
Luckily this year, safe Easter events were able to be held throughout Frederick and in our own homes.
2 Kids Farm held a Spring Eggstravagana on March 27 and April 3 from noon to 5 p.m. Children were able to meet with the Easter Bunny, get their picture taken, and enjoy several fun activities. The Eggstravagana had story time every half hour, craft stations, hayrides, egg hunts, prizes, games, and many furry friends to meet.
The event also had music provided by 99.9 WFRE. Food and beer were provided by the following local vendors: Idiom Brewing Company, Gabby’s Goodies, The Caramel Kettle, and Granny Peake’s Southern Sweets.
Tickets were $12 and $10 for all military, police, firefighters, nurses and doctors. The farm also collected cans and other nonperishable good for the local food bank at the St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Libertytown. 2 Kids farm is located at 11101 Liberty Road in Frederick, Maryland.
Amy Wolff, a manager at Direct Mortgage Loans in Frederick, usually holds an Easter egg hunt for her customers. This year she wanted to do something safe and that supported the local community, so she partnered with some of the businesses in Downtown Frederick for an Easter egg hunt.
Several businesses posted orange egg stickers in their windows for families to see from the street. The hunt was held from Thursday, April 1 to Saturday, April 3. When people found the eggs, they snapped a picture, posted it to social media, and tagged @theamywolffteam. The participant who found the most eggs was entered to win a prize.
Green Meadows Petting Farm hosted socially distanced Easter egg hunts on March 27-28 and April 1-4. Hunts were held between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Egg hunt areas were sectioned off by ages. Other activities included hayrides, pig races, animal feeding, petting zoo, and of course pictures with the Easter Bunny.
Tickets were $16 and included free egg hunts. Green Meadows Petting Farm is located at 10102 Fingerboard Road, Ijamsville, Maryland.
A drive through egg hunt was held on March 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the Frederick Fairgrounds. Families drove through to search for hidden eggs throughout the lane. Vendors had treats and information along the way.
Tickets were $10 per car and proceeds went to benefit the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life of Frederick County. The Frederick Fairgrounds are located at 797 E Patrick Street near downtown Frederick.
A community Easter egg hunt was held at Baker Park on Saturday, March 27. The hunt was from 1. to 4 p.m. and the golden eggs even had prizes. There was music, games, crafts, the Easter Bunny, and treats provided by Cakes by Eileasha. The egg hunt followed COVD-19 guidelines, so all attendees wore masks.
