Is The Weeknd’s final album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, a good farewell?

After almost 3 years, Abel Tesfaye also known as The Weeknd released his brand new album, Hurry Up Tomorrow on January 31, 2025. This is his last album in the trilogy then he plans on killing the Weeknd character and go by his real name or by a different persona.

On his latest album, he truly embraces a sleek, experimental sound that’s both jarring and thrilling. The transitions in between the songs are a work of art. When The Weeknd releases a single or an album, he never disappoints his fans like myself.

Hurry Up Tomorrow is introduced with some upbeat tunes like “Sao Paulo” and “Given Up on Me” that give off an 80s vibe. This is his way of giving a welcome to his album before the listeners got deep into it.

Later in the album, the songs “Baptized in Fear” and “Reflections Laughing” depict the anxiety he had when he lost his voice during one of his concerts back in 2022. In “Baptized in Fear,” he exclaims: “Figure in the corner laughing at me. Water fill my lungs, vision blurry.” The guilt and shame he felt were extremely powerful during that moment.

When hearing these songs, I found them to be very dark and emotional but it was also so powerful and beautiful that I couldn’t stop listening to it. All of his 22 songs each have a well-thought out message with them, leaving the listener thinking and potentially relating to Abel.

In my point of view, Abel is just waiting for tomorrow, a.k.a. the next chapter to come around because he’s been stuck on the same day–The Weeknd–for the entirety of his music career. Although Hurry Up Tomorrow is very emotional and deep, this is truly an amazing farewell to The Weeknd and a hello to something new and exciting.
