Frederick’s Flavor Favorites: Students Share Their Top Dining Spots

Frederick Community College students have diverse food tastes and recommendations for top restaurants in Frederick.

The Commuter  recently talked to them about their favorite restaurants and dishes. Frederick County is an ever-expanding center of business and agriculture with a wealth of new restaurants popping up every day. Therefore, it can be hard to keep up with finding the best the city has to offer; sometimes it can be helpful to then consult a community of involved residents.

Frederick Community College is in the heart of Frederick, Maryland, with students who are constantly engaged with the county.

Asian cuisine is a top choice for students. Lazy Fish at 10 E. Patrick St. serves a variety of Asian fusion dishes.

“I enjoy the sushi platters because sushi is my favorite food, and it has a variety of types,” said Jaden Kline, 20, about Lazy Fish.

The sushi platters feature a choice of fresh fish (Nigiri), cooked fish (Maki), or vegetables. Klineen enjoys Frederick’s vast food choices at the restaurant. Lazy Fish also serves other Asian cuisine, such as noodle soups and rice bowls.

Another student, Noah Severt, 19, recommends Quickway, a Japanese Hibachi restaurant at 201A Shorebird St., Frederick. The restaurant aims to take the hibachi and package it in a quick service-style experience.

Severt’s favorite item from them is the teriyaki with fried rice. Quickway sells bento boxes, sushi, sides, and salads, all focused on the concept of a quick-serve, made-to-order hibachi experience.

El vin Martinez, 21, enjoys the casual atmosphere offered at North Market Pop Shop, 241 N. Market St., Frederick.”Pop Shop,” what customers also call, it offers sodas, local ice cream, and sandwiches such as hot dogs.

“They have the most unique flavors of soda and ice cream,” Martinez said.

He recommends blueberry ice cream as a must-have at Pop Shop. North Market Pop Shop offers over 450 soda combinations, a rotation of ice cream flavors, as well as vegan and gluten-free food options.

Trevor Smith, 18, mentioned La Paz, at 51 S Market St. in Frederick, is among his favorites.

Offering a variety of Mexican cuisine and margaritas, Smith seems to particularly like the Mexican Flag, which according to the establishment, is a “crisp corn tortilla topped with cheese, lettuce, guacamole, tomatoes, black olives and sour cream, served with rice.”

La Paz also offers a variety of appetizers, salads, soups, specialties, and desserts, as well as a choice of vegetarian dishes and a kids’ menu.
