Top 5 Reads for Summer

Summer is the time to relax with a good book. Not sure what to pick? Here are my personal Top 5 picks for the summer.  

“One Italian Summer” by Rebecca Serle 

Katy’s mom Carol just passed away before the leaving for their trip they had planned together. They were heading to Positano and the Amalfi Coast. This is where Carol had spent the summer right before meeting Katy’s father. Katy leaves for the trip on her own but when she gets there, she feels her mother’s presence with her. Katy then sees her mother but she’s not like what she was she is shown in her 30’s and Katy gets to know Carol as a young woman.  

I read this book a couple summers ago and rated it 5 stars. I liked the concept of the book. It was nice to read a book that was set in an area I hadn’t been to before. I would definitely recommend this to other readers. This book has an overall rating of 3.59

“The Summer I Turned Pretty” by Jenny Han 

Isabel Conklin, known as “Belly”, enjoys her summers at the beach at her Susannah’s house (her mom’s childhood best friend) with her two sons Conrad and Jeremiah, her mom Laurel and her brother Steven. She spends every summer there. She is now 16 and things start to change. In the end she has to choose between Conrad and Jeremiah.  

I read the whole series and also read other books by this author, Everybody was saying that this series was really good so I thought I would read it. I would recommend this book to others. I rated this book Five stars. This book has an overall rating of 3.75. 

“Every Summer After” by Carly Fortune 

This book is told over the course of six years. Persephone known as “Percy” spends her childhood summer at their friend’s lake house. When she is grown, she spends them In New York in her apartment. She regrets not staying at the lake house longer.  But then she is called back for Sam’s mothers funeral (the friends who own the lake house.) she is now deciding whether she should stay or go.  

I read this book a couple of summers ago and I rated it 5 stars. At the time when I read this book it was the only book in the series and the author’s debut novel. “Every Summer After” is a series with three books. This book has won the Goodreads Choice Award. I would recommend this book to others. This book has an overall rating of 4.22. 

“The Summer of Broken Rules” by K.L. Walthers 

Meredith has been going to Martha’s Vineyard for as long as she can remember but hasn’t been back after the death of her sister. Her whole family is going for their cousin’s wedding. Meredith’s boyfriend dumps her, and it just so happens that her family lies to play a game of assassin and she meets another cute guy.  

I read this book recently rated it 3 stars. This book was very popular last summer, and many people liked it, but I did not think it lived up to what it was said to be. I would say it was not my favorite book but I would recommend it because people have different tastes. This book has an overall rating of 3.93. 

“Love and Gelato” by Jenna Evans Welch 

Lina is spending her summer in Tuscany because that was her mother’s dying wish. She wanted her daughter to get to know her father more and Lina just wants to go home. Lina is given a journal from when her mother spent her time in Tuscany. Now she is following her mother’s footsteps and trying to unearth a secret that has been kept for too long and will change everything. 

I read this book summers ago. I gave it 4 stars and would recommend this book. At the time when I read “Love and Gelato” there were only two books in the series, now there are three. This book has an overall rating of 4.05.
