‘Swifties’ Captivated: Frederick Community College Swoons Over Taylor Swift’s Latest Album

Taylor Swift’s latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” was released on April 19, and it’s been making waves ever since.

Not only did it shoot to the top of the charts and break records, but it’s a “Love Story” that’s “Enchanted” listeners at Frederick Community College.

Chaeli Vega, 20, is a nursing student at FCC. She listened to the album when it came out at midnight.

“My favorite song was probably ‘I Can Do It with a Broken Heart’ because I feel like it really resonated with me and my life,” she said.

Vega has been a fan of Swift for 16 years but has yet to see one of her concerts.

“I’m a fan of Taylor because my mom would always blast Taylor Swift in the kitchen and we always would dance together, then the obsession sparked from there,” she said.

Vega was very surprised to find out the album was secretly a double album, claiming, “I had absolutely no idea.”

Mackenzie Savage, 20, is an elementary education major, who came to FCC from James Madison University. Her favorite song on the album is “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.”

“I think it was super well-written and I love the bridge and how well it picks up,” she said. “I like it when she writes angry songs but makes them kind of sad to convey the frustration people in relationships feel and how being hurt feels.”

Savage has been listening to Taylor since she was about 5 or 6 years old. She also has been to three of her concerts, the 1989 Tour, the Reputation tour and the Eras tour.

“I think she’s a really good role model for women and young girls. She’s strong and stays true to what she believes in,” she said. “She writes about some of the hardest things you can go through in life. I feel like most artists can only do one or two genres of music, but she’s dominated country, pop, rock, alternative, everything.”

She claimed to have had a mix of emotions when finding out the album was secretly a double album.

“I was so very happy but annoyed she did it in her Taylor fashion and made us get zero sleep,” said while rolling her eyes.

Alyssa Pizer, 19, is a business administration student from Frederick, Maryland. She has been a fan of Taylor since her childhood, and when the double album was released, she was very shocked and thought it was fake at first.

She has two favorite songs off the album. One of which is “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me.”

“I just really related to the song and the lyrics, and it’s such a good song to scream to,” she said.

The other song she enjoyed was “But Daddy, I Love Him.” “The song shows how in love you can be with someone while not being treated good and still defending them to people.”
