It is officially the holiday season, and as the saying goes, it is the season of giving. And Frederick Community College has gotten involved in that giving mentality.
Brenda Flores, administrative associate for the Provost Office at FCC, has worked with the Frederick Rescue Mission to bring clothes to the needy.
“Accepted clothes were new and gently used “coats, gloves, hats, sweatshirts, things like that” said Carolyn Chandler, volunteer manager at the Frederick Rescue Mission. Scarves were also accepted.
Donations were made at FCC before being delivered to the Frederick Rescue Mission.
Flores said they had boxes in Annapolis Hall where students could donate clothes for the drive. The drive has ended. Clothes that were donated were then taken to the Frederick Rescue Mission to be sorted to put out the best clothes.
The Clothes Drive works with the Frederick Rescue Mission but is not associated with any other organization.
Hope Melnick,23, a sophomore from Iamsville, was one of the volunteers helping to bring and sort through the donations at the Frederick Rescue Mission and it brings her spirits up.
“I feel kind of great actually,” Melnick said on her volunteer work. She got involved with the drive through the Cru Club.
Although the drive has come to an end, but if any student is interested in volunteer work at the Frederick Rescue Mission, you can sign up at frederickrescuemission.org.
