Jericho Silent Men’s March to Take Place in Frederick on October 24th

“Jericho Silent Men’s March will change the life of any man that attends.” This is according to David Brooks, clinical director and owner of Brooks Behavioral Services in Frederick. Brooks designed the march, planned for Saturday, Oct. 24, in Frederick, as a showcase to support fatherhood.

Brooks, also known as the Cadillac Counselor, is attempting to get to the root of a major problem in the urban community. Brooks, who was on the front lines of the marches and protest due to the recent rise in events of social injustice, decided not to stop at marches and protests.

He decided to take things a step forward, and instead of just blaming the police and judiciary system for their actions, he wants to get to the root of the problem in these communities that are suffering.

David Brooks came to the realization that one of the deepest problems in the minority community here in Frederick and in many communities is the absence of the father in the home. He said statistics show that children growing up without their father in the home or the lack of a father in their life are 30 percent more likely to become incarcerated.

“The main key is that fathers are the core sense of a belief system,” he said. “A father plays a significant role in what direction a child will go.” With this in mind, Brooks searched for ideas on how to motivate fathers in these urban communities involved in their children’s lives.

He realized that many men want to be a father, but don’t know how to be, because they were never shown how. Or, many men give fatherhood a try, but for many reasons, they can’t keep it going.

Through this revelation, the Cadillac Counselor decided to start a march to uplift these men, and he’s calling it the Jericho Silent Men’s March. “The Jericho Silent Men’s March is designed to look at the issues of these men,” Brooks said.

The event will offer counseling, mentorship, health checks, job opportunities, help with housing, a grocery giveaway and more. “A one day of encouraging men, not loud or rambunctious, but in silence.”  The march will take place in Downtown Frederick’s Baker Park.
